• Found out I’m not the only one that is against growth.

• Wonderful to hear so many common concerns brought up by others, but I worry that this is a very select group who, while sometimes influential, often get outvoted by folks who didn’t attend.

1. How could we have improved this Forum?

• Well run
• It went good.
• Good forum; would participate in this format again.
• Better transcribing of vision statements by assistants, some statements became something other than intended.
• Have a second follow-up session to allow more participation in focus groups and to allow people with conflicts to participate.
• Perhaps find a way to automate some of the steps. Use of laptops.
• More time
• Not enough time for action (beige sheets). Nametags for attendees. Future meeting dates.
• Don’t put times on agenda – people get nervous when you get off schedule – just list beginning and end time. If you list times – stay on time. It wasn’t clear that there was such a time commitment required tonight.
• We need the drop-in session you mentioned – maybe sooner.
• Provide agendas before hand (as part of flyer). Allow for idea input before the meeting.
• Had it more than once to allow for more participation.
• Allow more time for discussion in small groups.
• Maybe have more information about current developments (i.e., North Cape Commons) to help educate people.
• Make it a bit longer, or on a Saturday. Starting at 6:30 p.m. was a challenge as is taking up so much of a week night.
• Allow more time for the post-break objectives/strategies section.

• More discussion is needed, and possible we could have made this a weekend (2-day) stint.
• All went well – good group participation. Some conflict with certain ideas – some very dominating.

• The summary of group statements didn’t reflect the full range of opinions (e.g., I think if the controlled/managed growth issue had been worded differently, it would have won hands down – this is supported by 8-9 people who attended that focus group.)
• A touch more active help steering the sessions. Perhaps a microphone.

1. Please offer any comments, suggestions, or opinions you have on the Village of Mount Horeb’s comprehensive planning process in the space provided below.

• Worried that when your process gets to Planning Commission, all ideas expressed today will be reversed. Due to proprietary interests of business people on Planning Commission.
• Smart growth is limited as a tool for planning in that its focus is on where and what but is not a program for architectural style, quality of life, environmental behavior. Just a bunch of maps. I reference a pattern language as a guide for piece meal, growth.
• Looking forward to the process.
• I feel like we’re starting from scratch … again.
• The ’94 Comprehensive Plan made a major mistake in not stipulating mandatory 2^nd local thoroughfare, stipulating new local access to major subdivisions (vs. imposing access on existing neighborhoods), and restricting size/rate of growth of new subdivisions. Please ensure these mistakes are not made in the new comprehensive plan.
• Continue to encourage citizen involvement in the process.
• Good job in getting community involvement, keep up the good work!
• Please help the neighbors help define Mount Horeb, not the developers.

• I’m going to list some specific ideas I have regarding the Village of Mount Horeb and growth:
  • Moratorium or significantly reduce growth
  • Only single family housing – no multi-family units
  • Village to only allow non-polluting industry
  • Lots of parks and green space emphasized in village.
  • No big department stores allowed such as Wal-Mart, which would threaten smaller business.
  • Private land between swimming pool park and Stewart Park should become parkland and never be developed.
  • Adopt "dark sky lighting ordinance" – significantly reduce number of residential lights which would save the Village money and improve the quality of life. We would be able to enjoy looking at the stars!
  • Build a YMCA in town to offer our kids more recreational activities as well as adults.
• Where will results be reports/communicated? Thanks for keeping this "on-task" with time, etc.
• Have interactive maps available next time.
• Probably need more meetings to address the issues just touched on here.
• Take seriously what people have to say.
• What strikes me as somewhat odd – if so many here at this forum are so anti-growth (or slow growth) then why is it happening so heavily now?
• Have commercial – attract large employers with logistic capabilities of the nearby freeway. Have schools not be overcrowded and have affordable real estate taxes – locate opportunities to obtain financial support to help with expense.
• I believe the Plan Commission and Vandewalle can put the plan together quite well.

• More nuts and bolts information – what will things cost, etc.
• Concern over whether the town/developers will just say "whatever" and build where, how, and how much they want to as history and money made would indicate this route.

• Wal-Mart is evil. Section 8 = higher costs for police, social services, and will alter the bucolic nature of the schools.
• If you develop more low income and multi-household units there will be a significant increase in crime, more distractions in schools and greater dissatisfaction among village residents.
